Taraba state government has announced that Deputy Governor Alhaji Aminu Alkali’s health is stable and will soon return to the state.
The Deputy Governor, who suffered a stroke in November 2024, received treatment in Abuja and was later flown to Egypt for further medical care.
At a press briefing following the State Executive Council meeting, Commissioner for Health Dr. Bordiya Gbansheya and Commissioner for Information, Hajiya Zainab Usman Jalingo, confirmed that the Deputy Governor is responding to treatment.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Bordiya Gbansheya explained that the State Executive Council directed him to visit Egypt to evaluate the Deputy Governor’s health and report back.
“I can tell you that his excellency is recuperating well, he has had a stroke which affected part of his body and his ability to talk but glory be to God the treatment is still on going and we are happy with the current treatment he is receiving. We are hoping that very soon, we will welcome him back to the state to continue his activities.”
Concerning speculations making the rounds about impeaching the Deputy Governor, the Commissioner for Information clarified that there is no law requiring the Deputy Governor’s impeachment due to his absence from the state for an extended period.
” This principle of 90 days only applies to the sitting governor of a state and not the deputy governor. ”
She therefore appealed to Tarabans to be more sympathetic and understanding, emphasizing that illness can affect anyone.
