The Governing Council of the University of Maiduguri has officially appointed Professor Mohammed Mele as the substantive Vice Chancellor.
The decision came during a special meeting where four candidates were interviewed, leading to a recommendation from the Joint Council and Senate selection committee.
According to a statement from the university’s Registrar, Ahmad Lawan, Professor Mele’s appointment takes effect immediately.
“The Governing Council of the University of Maiduguri at its special meeting held on Wednesday 18th September, 2024 has approved the appointment of Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele as the substantive Vice Chancellor of the University ”
According to the statement, the newly appointed Vice Chancellor is a Professor of English language and Linguistics with over two decades of dedicated service in teaching, research and community services.
Prior to this appointment, he served as the acting Vice Chancellor and held various academic and administrative roles, including Deputy Vice Chancellor for Central Administration.
