As the rainy season sets in, residents of Adamawa state living in flood prone areas have been advised to relocate to safer grounds.
The Director, waste management and pollution control department, Adamawa state ministry of environment, Eskwaya Danfulani gave the advice in an interview with Fombina News in Yola.
The Director, waste management and pollution control of the ministry of environment Adamawa state, Eskwaya Danfula said most of the people living in the flood pron areas are aware of their situation, hence the need for them to quickly move to safer grounds whenever the rainy season sets in.
Eskwaya said, the ministry is working round the clock to ensure that the environment is always clean so as to prevent diseases.
He said the ministry is collaborating with waste managers in order to ensure proper waste management in the state.
According to him, the state government is in the process of discussing with the state assembly for the possible reintroduction of the monthly sanitation.
He therefore called on the general public to keep their environment clean, reminding them that officers are always on house to house inspection in order to ensure residences are kept clean at all times.
Also speaking on the issue, the ward head of Nyakore, malam Adamu Waziri said his ward members have been coordinating themselves from time to time for the purposes of clearing the drainages to ensure environmental sanitation.
He said even though during rainy season, residents experience difficulties as a result of flooding, with proper disposal of waste, the situation can be reduced to a minimal level.
He appealed to the state government to provide a dumping site in their communities because that can go a long way in ensuring proper waste disposal.
