NYSC: @50 ” Playing Significant role in mentoring youth and promoting Unity among Nigerians”- Coordinator

The Yobe state Coordinator of the National Youths Service Corp Hajiya Hafsat Yarima says the scheme within fifty years of its existnce, has played significant role in mentoring youth and promoting unity among Nigerians.

Hajiya Hafsat Yarima stated this at a golden jubilee anniversary lecture and Award ceremony organised by the NYSC scheme in
Damaturu.

The Yobe state coordinator NYSC Hajiya Hafsat Yarima explained that the scheme was established after the civil war to promote integration among Nigerians and a lot has been achieved in that direction
She however said the agitation by a section of Nigerians for the scrpping of the Scheme was done out of ignorance considering the numerous success recorded.

Hajiya Hafsat Yarima who appealed for more support from Nigerians, further called on the corp members to continue to be good ambassadors of the scheme especially in the aspect of rendering Humanitarian services and community development efforts.

A guest lecturer at the occasion Dr Mohammed Ibrahim of the department of History and International studies, Yobe State University who presented a paper with the theme: NYSC Five decades of fostering National Unity and Development, explained that the scheme has succeeded not only in bring the youth together but also help in bridging the cultural gaps in the country.

Dr Muhammad Ibrahim pointed out that the strengths of the NYSC scheme has outweigh its weaknesses hence the need for its sustainability.

Responding onbehalf of the Award recipients, the Emir of Machina Alhaji AlBashir Bukar whose community won the Best Host Community Award said, two corp members that served in the community in 2005 were behind the design of the Machina Annual Cultural Festival that has become an international event.

Other highlights of the event include presentation of goodwill messages and Award to deserving individuals, organisations and communities among others.
