A medical expert, Dr. Pius Warigasu, has emphasized the dangers of self-medication, warning people against taking drugs without proper medical advice. He gave the advice while speaking with our correspondent in Yola
Dr. Pius Warigasu explained that self-medication involves taking drugs without a prescription or proper guidance from a medical doctor.
He said medications should only be taken based on the advice of a qualified health professional, who will determine the appropriate drugs and dosage according to the patient’s condition.

The medical expert noted that some people are careless about their health, stressing that self-medication does not guarantee recovery but could worsen an illness or cause other health complications.
Dr. Warigasu therefore advised people to go for regular medical check-ups and seek professional medical attention whenever they experience pain or notice unusual changes in their body.
Speaking on their experiences, Happy Lucas and Dunama Awi said some challenges they face when visiting hospitals, including delays and the cost of treatment, have made them prefer self-medication.
They explained that self-medication saves them time and money.
Another respondent, Benjamin Gambo, said self-medication is convenient and helps reduce the cost and stress of travelling from one health facility to another.
However, he called on people to seek the advice of qualified medical doctors rather than treating themselves.
