Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the Nigerian Army in strengthening security across the state, following the approval of a new 10th Division to oversee military operations in Adamawa and Taraba States.
Governor Fintiri gave the assurance on while receiving a delegation from the Nigerian Army Headquarters, led by Major General Ime Basi, on a courtesy visit to the Government House in Yola.
Describing the establishment of the 10th Division as a major step toward improving security, Governor Fintiri noted that it would enhance rapid response to emerging threats and promote lasting peace, particularly in border communities and other strategic locations across Adamawa State.
The Governor announced that the state government would allocate between 100 and 300 hectares of land for the establishment of military formations and training facilities. He further stated that all necessary documentation would be completed within two weeks, with the government providing all required support to ensure the smooth take-off of the project.
Governor Fintiri called on the Nigerian Army to sustain its efforts in restoring lasting peace and security not only in Adamawa but also in Taraba, Yobe, Gombe, and other parts of the country.
Earlier, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, represented by Major General Ime Basi, said the team was in Adamawa State to assess suitable locations for the immediate deployment of troops and the establishment of new military formations.
Major General Basi explained that the creation of the 10th Division is aimed at strengthening operational response to security threats, increasing troop presence in strategic areas, and enhancing the protection of lives and property across Adamawa and Taraba States.
The assessment team, according to Major General Basi, would visit Yola, Ganye, Gombi, Mubi, and Madagali to identify suitable locations that would enable the Nigerian Army to effectively project its operations to vulnerable border communities and improve security coverage.
He appealed to the Adamawa State Government to provide temporary land for the immediate take-off of the new military formations while permanent sites are being developed.
