Adamawa State Gov’t signs harmonized WASH Policy

Adamawa state governor, Ahmad Umaru Fintiri has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to providing safe and clean water to the people of the state.

 

The governor, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment during the signing of the harmonized water resources and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, WASH policy.

 

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri said water is a critical component to human health, the economy and other important areas of the society hence the need to sign the WASH policy.

 

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri said his administration has invested a lot in the water sector which has also guaranteed adequate supply of water, adding that with the signing of the harmonized policy, it will further encourage the government to invest more in the water sector.

 

The governor emphasized that this will also help in the collection of internally generated revenue in the water sector particularly collection and issuance of license, drillers permit, royalty on sale of water, registration for water contractors, fees for geophysical survey and others, assuring the development partners that the state government will adhere strictly to the newly signed policy.

 

Speaking on the policy, the Adamawa state commissioner for water resources, Mallam Ayuba Audu said signing the harmonized and WASH policy was part of the promises made to the people of the state by this administration.

 

He therefore appreciated the development partners and contributing ministries for their contributions in putting this policy together.

 

The development partners include IRC, Goal Prime, Ciscope, Usaid WASH, Mercy Corp and water aid amongst others.
