Adamawa state gov’t to partners FG in ensuring open defecation free by 2030

Adamawa State Government has said it will partner with the federal government in ensuring that Nigeria is open defecation free by the year 2030.

 

Adamawa state Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri revealed this when he hosted the State Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Barrister Bello Muhammad at Government House, Yola on Friday.

 

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri said the state government will also ensure that adequate and equitable sanitation and hygiene for all are achieved.

 

The governor said through the collaboration, the state government will ensure communities, schools and health centers are completely open dedication free, thereby reduce cases of communicable diseases.

 

The Governor said the state government will collaborate with the federal ministry of water resources and sanitation to grow the needs of the people as regards to water supply, irrigation farming and investment among others.

 

Governor Fintiri told the minister that the state government with support of the development partners has planned to develop and leverage more on the potentials of the Kiri Dam in Shelleng LGA because of its importance to businesses and tourism sector.

 

He commended the Managing Director of Upper Benue River Basin Development Authority, Yola for expanding the activities of the agency to giving the neighboring community opportunity to engage in dry season farming.

 

Earlier in his remarks, the Minister of State for Water Resources, Barrister Bello Muhammad Goronyo, told Governor Fintiri that the visit was part of his tour across the ministry’s agencies in the country.

 

He said the ministry with the mandate on water, irrigation and hydro power is open for collaboration with Adamawa state, as according to him the state is endowed with a lot of natural resources such as Dams and irrigation sites.

 

The minister congratulated Governor Umaru Fintiri on his victory both at the election and Tribunal as well as appreciates the hospitality accorded his team since arrival in the state.
