Adamawa State House of Assembly approves Governor’s request to acquire tons of Maize to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal.

Adamawa State House of Assembly has approved Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s request for the issuance of irrevocable standing payment order to acquire maize and fertilizer to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal by the federal government.

 

Speaker of the House, Bathiya Wesley read the letter of request on the floor of the house during Tuesday sitting.

 

The Governor had requested the sum Nine Hundred and Seventy four million, six hundred and seventy thousand naira on the floor of the House to acquire two thousand one hundred metric tones of maize and nine hundred metric tones of fertilizer in view of the decoration of State of Emergency on food security by the federal government to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal.

 

The loan would be deducted at the source from the State monthly statutory allocation over a period of twelve months.

 

Contributing, members representing Yola North Constituency Suleiman Umar Alkali and Demsa Kate Raymond Mamuno described the letter as timely, hence the need for the House to approve the request.

 

Also Members representing Girei, Abubakar Abdullahi, Guyuk Sunday Peter and Numan constituencies Pwamwakaino Makondo said the prices of food commodities at the moment are beyond common Man, thereby appealing to the House to consider the letter to enable executive arm of Government find a solution.

 

The Speaker therefore put the motion into voice vote and unanimously adopted by the House, thereby directed the clerk to communicate resolution to the executive arm of Government.
