The Catholic Bishop of Yola Diocese, Most Reverend Stephen Dami Mamza, has called on Christians to embrace the true essence of Christmas as a season of humility, hope, and selfless love.
In a homily during the Christmas Day Mass at Saint Theresa’s Catholic Cathedral in Yola, Bishop Mamza emphasized the significance of Christ’s birth as a revelation of God’s abundant love and desire to dwell among humanity.
Bishop Dami Mamza reflected on the humility of Christ’s nativity, which he described as a demonstration of God’s accessibility to all, irrespective of status or background.
“The birth of Christ is a powerful reminder of God’s glory revealed through simplicity and humility,” he said.
He urged the congregation to draw inspiration from this divine act of humility and to reflect it in their daily lives.
The Catholic Bishop while delivering the message of hope, highlighted the birth of Christ as the ultimate assurance that God has not abandoned humanity.
He encouraged the faithful to find strength in the light of God, which dispels even the deepest darkness. “No matter how overwhelming the challenges of life may seem, the birth of Jesus Christ is a sign of hope that God is with us, working through His spirit in our struggles and uncertainties,” he stated.
The Bishop called on Christians to respond to the Christmas message by living their faith with humility, joy, and generosity.
“Like the shepherds, we must draw closer to Christ and share His love with others. Christmas is a free gift of God, and we are called to receive it into our hearts and share it with the world,” he said.
He urged the congregation to embody the spirit of Christmas by bringing peace, hope, and joy to the lives of others, especially the poor and needy.
Bishop Dami Mamza prayed for peace and joy across the world, particularly in communities plagued by chaos and despair.
“Let us celebrate in peace, hope, and joy, remembering the true meaning of Christmas and striving to put a smile on the faces of others,” he concluded.
