Citizens advocate for adoption of Kano health and education policies

A coalition of Citizens have advocated for the adoption of education and health policies in Kano.

 

 

This was part of resolutions at he end of a two day governance assessment (GA),held in Kano.

 

 

The participants emphasized the need to strengthen government and citizen collaboration, by ensuring timely dissemination of relevant information on budgetary processes and related data availability, in the education and health sectors.

 

 

In his welcome address,the state facilitation manager, partnership to engage reform and learn, Malam Auwalu Hamza explained that,the governance assessment is designed to track outcome indicators, and support the internal partner circle of learning, and embedding actions for reform.

 

 

He stressed that,the focus group discussion centered around, collating and documenting information around 26 indicators, in the health and education sector.

 

 

Others who spoke includes, the state team leader PERL-ECP Malam Isah Surajo, representatives from GEP,Hajiya Mairo Bello, PLANE,CSO leadership,Salisu Yusuf,KNHA,MOE,MOpB,among others.

 

 

The participants drawn from the office of the head of civil service, Kano state house of assembly (KNHA), Health and Education MDAs, Civil Society organizations and the media,advocated for timely release of data, to boost public confidence in government affairs, at the executive and legislative arms in the state.

 

 

Other resolutions includes synergy between the Ministry of Planning and Budget, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health and the Kano State Bureau of Statistics, in curbing data gaps, in education and health.

 

 

Radio Nigeria reports that, the two day Governance Assessment session was supported by partnership to engage reform and learn (PERL ARC), to understand the extent to which processes, practices and capabilities within government have developed, and the degree to which public resources are used accountably and effectively.
