First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has solicited the support of traditional rulers in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
The first lady sought the collaboration during her visit to Taraba State to launch the distribution of 10,000 professional kits to midwives in the northeast region of the country.
Senator Tinubu described traditional rulers as the custodians of tradition and the people, emphasizing their vital role in raising awareness in communities.
She noted that a nation can not thrive without a healthy population, hence the need for health awareness campaigns.
The First Lady disclosed that 50 million naira has been disbursed to the state to support the ongoing Renewed Hope initiatives in Taraba state.
She, therefore, tasked traditional rulers to ensure that messages on HIV/AIDS awareness reaches the grassroots, reinforcing the need for collective action at all societal strata.
Senator Tinubu also announced her intention to work closely with the Ministry of Environment to enhance waste management efforts in Taraba state.
In his welcome address, Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State expressed gratitude for the visit by the first lady and pledged to support her programmes in the state.
Also speaking during the occasion, Chairman Taraba state Council of Chiefs, the Aku Uka of Wukari, Manu Ishaku Adda Ali, commended the First Lady’s visit, stating its benefits were enormous.
The event was also graced by the Minister of Health, the wife of the Vice President, and First Ladies from 16 states across the country.
