Twenty-four primary schools and primary healthcare facilities in five local government areas of Bauchi State have been selected to benefit from Phase II of the Climate Resilient Infrastructure for Basic Services (CRIBS) Project.
The beneficiaries include fifteen primary schools and nine primary healthcare centres distributed across the selected local government areas.
The project is designed to strengthen service delivery, reinforce climate-resilient interventions, and improve essential services in primary schools and primary healthcare facilities across the state.
The CRIBS Project is funded by the UK Government under the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), through the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Nigeria.
Speaking at the official launch of the project at the Banquet Hall of the Bauchi Government House, Governor Bala Mohammed said the CRIBS initiative aligns with his administration’s commitment to addressing climate-related challenges in the education and health sectors.
Represented by his deputy, Muhammad Auwal Jatau, the Governor expressed appreciation to the UK Government, UNICEF, and other partners for their confidence in his administration, demonstrated through the introduction of numerous interventions in the state.
Chief of the UNICEF Bauchi Field Office, Dr Nuzhat Rafique, said the project would focus on climate-related services, including water provision, solar systems, and tree planting, to mitigate the impact of high temperatures, heatwaves, and other adverse environmental conditions.
Dr Rafique commended the state government for its dedication to children’s welfare and pledged continued collaboration to support their growth, development, and full potential.
Also speaking, the Executive Chairman of the State Primary Health Care Board, Dr Rilwanu Mohammed, said the beneficiary local government areas include Darazo, Itas Gadau, Gamawa, Katagum, and Shira.
He explained that the selection was based on last year’s assessment, which identified the local government areas most affected by floods and windstorms.
