The Gombe State office of the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACRESAL) has planted over 500 tree seedlings along roadsides in Shehu Abubakar District, Gombe metropolis.

The initiative aims to enhance the aesthetics of newly constructed roads by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya while also serving as a shelterbelt to combat erosion.

Speaking to journalists after taking part in the exercise, Gombe ACRESAL Project Coordinator, Dr. Sani Adamu Jauro, said the seedlings, comprising different tree species, would contribute to a conducive environment. He noted that ACRESAL integrates tree planting into every road project under the governor’s 1,100-kilometer network initiative to improve sustainability.

Dr. Jauro also commended environmental management NGOs working with ACRESAL for ensuring proper care of previously planted trees. He urged the public to take ownership of the project by protecting the seedlings for long-term benefits.

On behalf of the residents, community leader Alhaji Jabir Sale Kilawa expressed gratitude to Governor Yahaya for constructing roads that ease movement and reduce their longstanding difficulties.

He also assured ACRESAL of the community’s commitment to monitoring and nurturing the newly planted trees.
