Health experts in Adamawa State have called on relevant stakeholders to join in the fight against the Human Papiloma Virus,HPV in order to save lives.
They made the call when they paid an advocacy visit on the management of Radio Nigeria Fombina FM Yola.
Human Papiloma Virus,HPV, is one of the leading causes of death amongst women.
It is a group of more than 200 related viruses that affect both men and women.
It is against this backdrop that the health experts visited the management of Radio Nigeria Fombina FM to seek the support of the media organisation in the fight against the virus.
Professor Amos Paul Bassi from the National Emergency Routine Immunization Center, while soliciting support for a phone-in program to reach the grassroots, stressed the need for vaccine prevention for cancer of the cervix to save lives of young girls ages nine to fourteen from HPV.
Professor Bassi said HPV can only be identified through screening which according to him, is expected to be flagged off on the 25th of September, 2023.
Executive Chairman, Adamawa State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Suleiman Bashir expressed gratitude to the General Manager, Fombina FM Yola for granting the proposal for the Radio program.
He revealed the immense role the media played in the successes recorded in routine immunisations and expressed hope for same synergy in combating the human Papiloma Virus.
Responding, the General Manager Fombina FM Yola, Dahiru Garba Mohammed appreciated them for recognizing the role of the media in reaching the grassroots, adding that it is part of the mandate of Radio Nigeria and pledged continued support to various stakeholders at the National and Subnational levels.
Dahiru Garba therefore called on well meaning individuals to partner with the media to create awareness and carry members of the grassroot along in their various activities.
