The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, in Adamawa State has been assured of adequate security during the gubernatorial re-run and state constituency elections schedule to take place on Saturday 15th April 2023.
This assurance was given by the commissioner of Police, Adamawa state police command, CP Mohammed Ahmed Barde who doubled as the co-chairman, inter-agency consultative committee on election security, during the committee’s meeting with officials of INEC in Yola, the Adamawa state capital.
CP Mohammed Ahmed Baba said security agencies in the state will be working round the clock before, during and after the elections in order to maintain law and order in the state.
Ahmed Baba said the Nigeria police in collaboration with sister agencies in the state will not take it lightly with anyone who tries to cause trouble during the election period.
Also, the state director of DSS in the state, Alhaji Babagana Bulama said the DSS is ready for the election exercise as additional personnel will be deployed from the headquarters as well as Bauchi and Gombe states commands for the exercise.
In his remarks during the meeting, the INEC Resident electoral commissioner, in the state, Barrister Hudu Yunusa Ari appreciated the security agencies and other members of the committee who are not law enforcement agents for their professionalism and general peaceful conduct in the state.
According to him, both sensitive and non-sensitive material had already arrived and will be distributed to the affected areas on Friday, the 14th of April 2023.
He equally called on the electorates to come out and exercise their franchise as their security is guaranteed.
INEC in the state had been engaging stakeholders as well as security agencies in its preparation to conduct free, fair, credible and all-inclusive supplementary elections in the state.
While governorship election will hold in 61 polling units across 20 local governments areas, state constituency elections will hold in only four local government areas of the state.
