The Institute for Media and Society IMS under the European Union Support to Democratic Governance in Nigeria, EU-SDGN has donated office asests and equipment to the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ.
The donation of the assets took place at the office of the Institute in Yola.
Speaking during the handing over ceremony of the assets, the Executive Director of IMS Dr. Akin Akingbulu, said the Institute deemed it necessary to give the assets to NAWOJ as the association has distinguished itself by setting examples as a model for peaceful coexistence through meaningful reportage, hence the donation.
Dr Akingbulu added that the Institue is confident of the quality coverage of media in Adamawa state which also informed their decision to support the women journalists in the state in order to boost their morale to do better.
Responding, the National President of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, Comrade Ladi Bala, appreciated the institute in particular as well as the European Union by for the kind gesture promising to make judicious use of the asests received.
Ladi Bala maintained that the gesture is not only meant for Adamawa but the entire country, adding that supports like these would go a long way in encouraging journalists, particularly women to promote human angle story telling and build their capacity to engender good journalism.
She therefore paid special tribute to IMS, identifying the noble gesture as first of its kind and and its various interventions in the activities of the association while appreciating the continued support of the European Union and urging it to continue the good work.
In a remark, Chairperson of NAWOJ in Adamawa State, Rose Anthony Elishama appreciated IMS and the European Union for their unwavering support and pledged to put the equipment to good use.
The assets transferred to NAWOJ include, standing fans, office chairs, tables, a generator and an Air conditioner.
Vice chairman Zone E of the Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ Zare Baba, chairman of NUJ in Adamawa state Ishaka Donald Dedan, a media scholar Dr John Ngamsa among other media officials graced the occasion.
