Adamawa state Government has announced the outbreak of measles which claimed over forty lives in some local government areas in the state.
The Commissioner for health, Felix Tangwami made this known while speaking to newsmen at the government house, Yola shortly after the state executive council meeting.
Felix Tangwami said he has adequately briefed the executive council of the outbreak of measles in Mubi North and Gombi and symptoms across 18 local government areas of the state with Lamurde local government as exception.
The commissioner explained that twenty three settlements in eight wards were affected in Mubi North and ten settlements in seven wards in Gombi- local government areas.
” mubi north has recorded suspected case of 131 and that of Gombi 177, mubi north also recorded 23 deaths and Gombi 19″
Felix Tangwami said the response team has since arrived at the affected local governments areas, reactivated the emergency response committee meeting that will be assessing the situation after every two days.
The commissioner stated that measles vaccines have been release to those areas as teams of experts are on the field containing the situation.
” there are sporadic in additional 18 local governments putting a total of 20. Aside Lamurde local government, all other local governments in Adamawa State Are on red dots”.
According to the commissioner, thirty samples of suspected have so far been sent to Gombe for examinations and once the results are out, necessary step will be taken to further curtail the situation.
Similarly, the Commissioner has updated that Polio outbreak discovered in Mayo Belwa local government area too had been contained.
Felix Tangwami highlighted that there was a search trace on the cases which was brought in to the state from kano and all the kids that are there were already vaccinated.
He added that all teams are on ground monitoring the situation as he advised the people to bath at intervals avoid overcrowding and report any suspected case to the teams.
