The Adamawa state Chairman of National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, Comrade Ijabula Joseph has appealed to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri to employ additional nurses as a deliberate move to compliment the upgraded health facilities so as to boost the health care delivery in the state.
Comrade Ijabula Joseph Ijaida, who made the appeal during an executive meeting of the Association held at Nurses House in Jimeta, said much have been achieved by the Governor in the health sector in Adamawa like the construction of additional cottage Hospitals as well as reconstruction and renovations of Hospitals across the state.
Comrade Ijaida expressed concern that if the school of nursing and midwifery is not affiliated to degree awarding institution, it will cease to offering academic services in line with regulations by National Council regulating nurses education in Nigeria in the near future.
He noted that the Governor has improved on some health centers while members of the union have remained the envy of others in terms of actualisation of payment of CONHESS to it’s members.
He enumerated establishment of New hospitals, rehabilitation of some health centers as well as primary healthcare centres among others but lamented that workforce in the sector is grossly inadequate and is in dire need of urgent attention.
NANNM chairman therefore called for engagement of graduate nurses and Midwives while soliciting intervention of the Governor in the appointment of chairman of board for School of Nursing and midwifery Yola to be a retired nurse in accordance with the act establishing the school.
Speaking in the same vein, Comrade Kefars William from Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital, described Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri as passionate in improving the health sector and appealed to him to employ more nurses in the health sector.
Comrade Dylis Bello Maidugu from Specialist Hospital chapel, noted the leadership qualities of Comrade Ijabula in steering activities of the union in the state.
Adding his voice, Comrade Prambe William from General Hospital Numan, said lack of trained nurses and engagement of new health workers especially nurses and Midwives has been a challenge to the ongoing transformation of health sector in the state.
