The National Population Commission in Adamawa State has inaugurated Security and Logistics Committee in preparation for the 2023 Population and Housing Census.
The committee members comprised of military and paramilitary security agencies in the state as well as other relevant bodies and organizations.
In his address before the inauguration of the Security and Logistics Committee, the Federal Commissioner representing Adamawa State at the National Population Commission, Dr. Clifford Zirra, said the success of the 2023 Population and Housing Census will depend largely on adequate security that will be provided to secure the enumerators, supervisors and other ad hoc staff working for the commission as well as their working equipment.
Dr. Zirra further explained that the Census exercise is going to be a comprehensive one that will ensure all residents of Nigeria are counted, adding that the employment of technology making it the first digital census in the history of Nigeria will guarantee credibility of the census data which he said will be used for national planning and other benefits therein.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Adamawa State Director, National Population Commission, Alhaji Abubakar Hamaadama, said the inauguration of the census security and logistics committee was crucial saying the commission will give all necessary support to the committee to carry out its assigned responsibility of providing security where and when necessary.
The chairman of the security and logistics committee, Retired Commodore Sinebi Hungiapuko, who spoke shortly after inauguration of the committee, said the task ahead of them was a serious one, emphasizing that the obligation assigned to them is an integrity test to help the National Population Commission deliver a credible census that will be accepted by all.
Commodore Hungiapuko, who is also a special adviser to governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri on security matters, stressed to the committee members the importance of doing the right thing by creating the enabling environment for the successful conduct of the National Population and Housing Census this year, calling on all Nigerians and indeed all relevant stakeholders and agencies to support the commission in its quest to deliver a good census to Nigerians.
Members of the Security and Logistics Committee include the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air force, Nigerian Customs Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Core, Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigeria Immigration Service, State Security Service, Nigeria Vigilante, National Union of Road Transport Workers, Nigeria Correctional Service and the state Director National Population Commission as Secretary of the Committee among others.
A video documentary was presented to show the commission’s level of preparedness for the 2023 population and housing census.
