As part of its broader initiative aimed at promoting sustainable transportation, improving mobility and easing transportation challenges, the North East Development Commission, NEDC, has announced plans to inaugurate its electric vehicle programme across the North-East, with Adamawa State expected to benefit from more than one thousand vehicles.
The Adamawa State Coordinator of the Commission, Khalifa Lawal, made this known when five district heads from Mayo-Belwa Local Government Area of Adamawa State paid him a courtesy visit in Yola.
While expressing appreciation to the district heads, the NEDC Adamawa State Coordinator, Khalifa Lawal, described the visit as a demonstration of strong community support and partnership.
Highlighting some of the Commission’s ongoing and completed interventions, including road construction and other critical infrastructure projects across various communities in Adamawa State and the wider North-East region, Lawal explained that the electric vehicle programme comprises buses, cars and tricycles.
“We are delighted by this visit and appreciate your show of solidarity. The Commission will continue to partner with communities in Mayo-Belwa and bring more development to Adamawa State in general,” Lawal said.
The Adamawa State Coordinator assured the district heads that Mayo-Belwa Local Government Area would continue to receive attention under the Commission’s intervention programmes, urging them to sustain their partnership with the Commission and support its efforts to accelerate development across the region.
The Archbishop of the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria, Most Reverend Panti Filibus, who spoke on behalf of the delegation and the communities, said the visit was aimed at strengthening ties with the Commission and commended the NEDC for its developmental strides in Mayo-Belwa Local Government Area and across Adamawa State.
The clergyman noted that the Commission’s interventions had provided significant relief to communities while contributing to improved infrastructure and socio-economic development in the area.
The delegation comprised the district heads of Bajama, Gorobi, Yagba, Gengle and Nasarawo Jereng, who expressed appreciation for the Commission’s ongoing and completed projects in Mayo-Belwa and sought continued collaboration in addressing the developmental needs of their communities.
The courtesy visit ended with both parties reaffirming their commitment to continued collaboration and partnership for the development and well-being of the people of Mayo-Belwa and Adamawa State at large.
