As Nigeria marks 63 years of independence, the need for religious tolerance, patriotism and mutual love have been identified as factors for peaceful coexistence in Nigeria.
Reverend Father David Jakos made this known in his homily during the Holy Mass at Saint Augustine’s Catholic Church, Bekaji, Yola.
Reverend Father David Jakos noted that for the country to experience peace, Nigerians must learn to accept each other and live together in spite of religious or tribal differences.
While calling on the christian faithfuls to avail themselves as instruments of peace, the cleric stressed the need for all citizens to carry out their duties responsibly in order to witness change and make Nigeria a better place for all.
“Let us play our part in building Nigeria. Let us make efforts to make our country where there will be love between the sons and daughters of this country”, he said.
Father Jakos added that for meaningful growth, government must revive the critical sectors of the economy and create employment to improve the livelihood of poor Nigerians.
He also called for constant prayers for God’s protection, peace, unity and security in Nigeria, urging the congregation not to give up in the midst of challenges the country is currently facing.
According to the cleric, “There is no home like Nigeria, Nigeria is our home. Despite our challenges, do not give up.”
Reverend Father Jakos while commending the resilience of Nigerians, therefore called for hard work, saying all citizens have a part to play in setting the nation on the path of greatness.
The Holy Mass featured recitation of the National Anthem as well as special prayers for peace and progress of Nigeria.
