The Brigade Commander, Six Brigade Jalingo, Brigadier General Kingsely Chidiebere Uwa wants media organizations to initiate programs that will strengthen the confidence of Nigerians in the capabilities of the Army and other security organizations.
Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa made the appeal when he hosted management of Radio Nigeria, Gift Fm, Jalingo on a courtesy visit to the command in Jalingo the Taraba State capital.
The Brigade Commander, Six Brigade, Jalingo Brigadier General Kingsely Chidiebere Uwa said the importance of the media in the fight against insecurity in the country can not be over emphasized, hence the need to keep the people abreast on the efforts and sacrifices the security personnel are making to ensure the environment is safe for everyone.
He commended Radio Nigeria and other media organizations in Taraba state for their role in promoting peace and unity through their reportage and programing.
The Brigade commander pointed out that over the years, the army has enjoyed a cordial working relationship with the media, which has brought forward the successes and engagements of the military.
“I must say that our activities and successes have been properly and adequately covered by the press with no form of adulteration, doctoring or manipulation. “
Expressing the command’s support to the station, he urged the media to keep being professional in the discharge of their duties and never relent in bridging the communication gap in the society.
He assured the people of Taraba state that the Brigade would within the ambit of the law secure the state and ensure residents go about their occupation peacefully.
“On our part, it is duty bound that we continue to be professional and remain resilient in thriving towards ensuring that the people of Taraba state go about their activities without any form of molestation.”
Earlier, the General Manager Radio Nigeria, Gift Fm Jalingo, Mallam Alkasim Bala thanked the commander for granting them audience regardless of his tight schedule and for accepting to partner with the station.
The general manager explained that Radio Nigeria is a household media outfit in Nigeria that has its stations spread across the 36 states of the country equipped with the mandate of uplifting the people and uniting the nation.
According to him, Radio Nigeria Gift Fm is in Taraba state to serve as an intermediary between the government and the people, thereby filling up any existing information gap in the state for accelerated development.
“ coming to Taraba, you know in the north east or almost across the country we have issues of security challenges and we felt as media organisation we must partner with security forces to maintain peace in every community.”
Mallam Alkasim Bala equally appealed to the army to extend its surveillance to the station’s premises, considering the unfortunate incident of theft experienced in the station few days ago.
