A total of N1.9 billion has been disbursed nationwide by the office of the Nigerian First Lady to support elderly citizens during the yuletide season.
Two hundred and fifty elderly individuals aged 60 and above in each state will benefit from the scheme, including medical outreach programs in all 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory, and the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association.
The initiative demonstrates the government’s commitment to prioritizing the health and well-being of elderly citizens.
Hajiya Lami emphasized the program’s focus on supporting the elderly annually, with a key focus on their health.
In Adamawa State, the governor’s wife, Hajiya Lami Umaru Fintiri, flagged off the elderly support scheme on behalf of the Nigerian First Lady.
Through her office Fresh Air Pro-Life Empowerment Foundation, elderly citizens will receive medical outreach and food distribution in the state.
Hajiya Lami stressed that the grassroots-level assistance ensures aid reaches those who need it most, alleviating struggles in accessing basic necessities.
She called on stakeholders to collaborate and address unique challenges faced by elderly citizens in Adamawa State.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Neido Kufolto, applauded the initiative, saying it will improve the lives of countless individuals.
The wife of the Adamawa State governor commended the Nigerian First Lady for her dedication to supporting the elderly.
Beneficiaries, including Baba Umaru Usman and Albeta Zira, expressed gratitude for the gesture.
The theme of the exercise was Total Wellness.
