Religious Leaders in Adamawa state have called on the newly inaugurated governments at Federal and state levels to work towards uniting Nigerians for socio economic development of the country.
They made the call while speaking to Radio Nigeria on the role of religious leaders in entrenching good governance.
The Chairman of the Muslim Council of Adamawa state, Alhaji Gambo Jika said God bestows leadership on whosoever he desires and called on the new leaders to justify the confidence reposed in them by carrying every one along irrespective of religious, ethnic or political affiliations.
He also stressed the need for the President and state governors to address the lingering issues affecting the people for economic growth of the country.
Jika called on leaders of Islamic and Christian religions to preach peace at all times to engender harmonious coexistence for progress and national development.
He however called on the clergy to stay away from partisan politics which according to him, is capable of polarizing the society and urged Nigerians to support the new administration for the benefit of all and sundry.
Describing the place of religious leaders as critical to ensuring peaceful coexistence, Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN in Adamawa state, Most Reverend Stephen Dami Mamza enjoined the clergy to lead the people on the right path.
Reacting to the roles played by the church during the electioneering period, the Bishop advised politicians to work towards winning the hearts of the people in order to gain their votes.
Reverend Dami Mamza who is also the Catholic Bishop of Yola Diocese, called on the election tribunals to deliver justice without fear or favour, and called on Nigerians to unite in order to achieve collective national goals of peace, prosperity and progress.
