Tarauni Local Government Area has carried out a large-scale livestock vaccination campaign, providing free treatment and preventive services to herders across the area.
The exercise, which covered Baso Dantsinke settlement, Idris Abubakar settlement, and Muhammad Loga area (Unguwa Uku ‘Yan Awaki), targeted major cattle diseases including Contagious Bovine Pleuropneumonia (CBPP), as well as cough, flu, and other infections affecting livestock.
According to the Head of Agriculture and Natural Resources Department, Ado B. Dahiru, a total of 7,213 cattle were successfully vaccinated during the campaign.
He explained that the initiative forms part of the efforts of the Executive Chairman of Tarauni Local Government, Ahmed Ibrahim , in collaboration with the Kano State Government under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, to improve animal health and boost livestock productivity.
The team leader of the veterinary team, Dr. Hanga, said the campaign was designed not only to protect cattle from disease outbreaks but also to educate livestock owners on proper animal health management practices.
He noted that illnesses such as flu spread rapidly, particularly during certain seasons, making routine vaccination critical for preventing losses among herders.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment, chairman Tarauni LGA Ahmad Ibrahim said the local government would continue to implement people-oriented programmes, especially in agriculture and livestock development, to improve livelihoods in the area.
Beneficiary herders expressed appreciation to the local authorities for bringing free animal healthcare services closer to their communities.
Officials also commended the Kano State Government for supporting initiatives aimed at strengthening animal health systems across the state.
