Adamawa State governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, says human capital development is one of the priorities of his administration aimed at building the capacities of people of the state.
The governor stated this at the closing ceremony of Home Technology Entrepreneurship Skills and Mindset Development Training programme in Yola.
The two weeks training had one hundred and five trainees drawn from the twenty one local government areas of the state, and they were trained to acquire skills on Liquid Wash, Air Freshener, Vaseline Making and Leather Crafting.
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, who was represented at the occasion by the state commissioner for Commerce, Trade and Industry, Dr. Ishaya John Dabari, said the 2024 budget specifically and clearly indicates that women and youth will be empowered and taken care of to bring about general wellbeing to the people of the state.
The governor appealed to the trainees to put all the skills they had been taught into practice so as to acquire experience and expand the skills to profitable ventures that that will not just be beneficial to them but to their communities and humanity as a whole, adding that the entrepreneurial knowledge should be used to solve societal problems in their immediate environments.
He explained that this training has given them the opportunity to empower themselves economically by generating revenue to themselves and the state as well, reminding them of the need to employ and engage more women and youth and by so doing contributing their quota in eradicating poverty.
In his keynote address, Adamawa State Commissioner for Entrepreneurship Development, Illiya James, while giving a breakdown of how the two weeks training was conducted, eighty four of the trainees were trained in Home Technology Air Freshener and Soap Making, while the remaining twenty one were trained in Leather works like shoes and bag crafting.
Illiya James said in order to avoid the selling of the starter packs and other items that will be given to the trainees as has been observed in the past, this time around the training included mind training to make them desire success in their chosen fields, pointing out that apart from the startup kits that will be given to them, the trainees had already received the sum of thirty thousand naira each to help them start and set up their businesses.
In his goodwill message, Area Manager, Industrial Training Fund, in charge of Adamawa and Taraba states, Alhaji Rilwan Baba Jibrin, commended governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, for taking one hundred and five persons off the street and redundancy, urging to step down the training by engaging twenty persons each in their local governments.
Earlier in her opening remarks, Deputy Permanent Secretary, ministry of Entrepreneurship Development, Hajia Amina Bashir Tukur, said the state has already started feeling the impact of the training because some idle minds have been engaged and are doing something meaningful with their lives.
Some of the beneficiaries and trainees spoke about how they felt about the training.
Highpoints of the training were the inspection of items produced by the trainees as well as handing over of startup kits and certificates.
